Space is full of strange and fascinating phenomena that often outdo science fiction. Here are some bite-sized facts about our cosmos and beyond. The Moon isn't round, it's lemon-shaped, with bulging equators and flattened poles, likely caused by gravitational interactions with Earth during its early formation. In 2009, astronomers found ethyl formate near the Milky Way's center, a chemical that smells like rum and gives raspberries their distinct flavor. Despite Hollywood's take, space exposure isn't instantly deadly. Europa's ocean alone could hold twice the amount of water found on Earth. Earth's rotation is slowing. Each century, our planet takes about 1/500th of a second longer to complete one full spin on its axis.
